Askja — Prototype guide

Your watch has no buttons on the outside.

The case is closed on every side but the crystal, and everything you would normally reach through a pusher happens through the caseback instead. This page explains how, and what the metal will do over time.

The case, caseback and buckle are designed and made by us. The movement is a genuine Casio module, bought and fitted unmodified.

Setting the time

The module's own buttons sit inside the case. To reach them, open the back.

  1. Loosen the four screws in the caseback. Work in a cross pattern — opposite corners, not around the edge.
  2. Lift the caseback away. Keep the screws together; they are small.
  3. Lift the module out of its seat.
  4. Set the time and alarm with the module's own buttons.
  5. Seat the module back with the display facing the crystal, refit the caseback and tighten the four screws in the same cross pattern. Snug, not forced — the threads are fine.

Battery

Type CR1616. It is replaced the same way, through the caseback, and any watchmaker can do it.

Strap

Standard spring bars, 16 mm lug width. Any strap of the same width will fit.

What the metal does

Not water resistant

No swimming, no shower, no submersion. Wipe splashes off as they happen.

Every case is slightly different

Casting does not repeat exactly.

The bronze is left bare

This model is not patinated. Bare bronze darkens with wear and skin contact, unevenly and in the places you touch most. Polish it back with a soft cloth if you prefer it bright, or leave it.

The buckle darkens

The buckle is unpatinated bronze and will take on its own tone from wear. Nothing needs doing. A soft cloth brings it back if you want it brighter.

The caseback is silver

Silver tarnishes against sulphur compounds in air and skin. A soft cloth or a silver cloth clears it.

Disposal

Crossed-out wheeled bin with a bar: separate collection for electrical equipment

Do not put the watch in household waste. Take it to electrical waste collection.

Crossed-out wheeled bin: separate collection for batteries

Take the battery out before disposing of the watch and put it in battery collection.

Warranty and returns

Two-year liability for defects. Fourteen days to return, under EU consumer law.

Casio's factory warranty does not apply: the module has been recased, which ends the manufacturer's warranty. Responsibility for the product is ours.
